Maruarar and Hercules Debate Land Ownership in Tanah Abang
Housing and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait debated with Jaya Rosario de Marshal, alias Hercules, the Chairman of the United Indonesian People’s Movement (GRIB), regarding land ownership in the Tanah Abang area. This moment was captured in a video shared on Maruarar’s personal Instagram account. In the post, Maruarar is seen directly inspecting land owned by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) to accelerate the provision of housing for the people. The post on Maruarar’s account consists of several video clips of the activities. The first video clip shows Maruarar attending a meeting with KAI officials, including KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin. To Maruarar, Bobby explained that the obstacle is the land claimed to be state-owned, which is now illegally occupied by a community organisation (ormas). In another video clip from the same post, Maruarar and his entourage are seen visiting an empty plot of land. “My goal is to build houses for the people here. So not for developers and so on,” Maruarar said to Hercules, as posted on the @maruararsirait account on 5 April 2026. Hercules then appeared to explain about the right to land management or HPL. “HPL is for managing the land, but not for owning it. If this belongs to the state, today I will hand it over,” Hercules stated.
