Martin and Bezzecchi Acknowledge Marc Marquez Remains a Threat
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Marc Marquez’s injury has made his chances of winning the 2026 MotoGP championship more difficult. However, two of his main rivals, Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin, believe the Ducati rider is not yet out of the running for the title this season.
Marquez is known to have suffered a broken leg after a crash in the Sprint Race of the French MotoGP at Le Mans last weekend. The Spanish rider is also said to be experiencing nerve problems in his shoulder.
As a result of his condition, Marquez is confirmed to be absent from the MotoGP Catalunya this weekend. This situation means he could fall behind by as many as 108 points from the current standings leader, Marco Bezzecchi.
“Marc won the title last year in Japan, five races before the end of the season. So personally, I never rule out Marc from the title race,” said Bezzecchi, quoted by Crash, Friday (15/5/2026).
According to the Aprilia rider, the MotoGP season is still long, so anything is still possible.
“Now the season is still very long, so anything can still happen. When Marc returns later, he will definitely be very hungry to win,” he said.
Jorge Martin expressed a similar opinion. The 2024 MotoGP world champion said Marquez has proven several times that he is capable of bouncing back from difficult situations.
“If there is someone who can bounce back from the lowest point to the highest level, it is Marc. So we can’t ignore him. I hope he recovers soon and returns to racing,” said Martin.
Previously, Marquez revealed that the nerve problems he was experiencing had caused his performance to drop by about half a second per lap.
Despite this, he was still able to break the Le Mans lap record during the Qualifying 1 session before eventually crashing in the Sprint Race.
Meanwhile, Alex Marquez said that his older brother’s main focus now is not on the championship race, but on the process of recovering from his injury.
The Ducati manager, Davide Tardozzi, also could not confirm whether Marc Marquez would be fit to compete in the Mugello series.
