Martial Arts Groups in East Java Hurl Stones, Police Car Window Smashed

A brawl erupted between groups of martial arts practitioners in Pakel District, Tulungagung, East Java. The stone-throwing incident resulted in the windscreen of a police patrol car being smashed. Pakel Police Chief AKP Anwari stated the incident occurred on Sunday (28/6/2026) around 2:00 a.m. local time. At that time, a crowd in a celebratory convoy for the PSNU Pagar Nusa Trenggalek mass graduation ceremony was travelling along the Bandung-Pakel route on their way home. As they passed through a paddy field area in Sambitan Village, Pakel District, a group of youths who had been hiding suddenly emerged from the fields and began hurling objects at the crowd. ‘We had initially anticipated this because disturbances usually occur around the Sambitan junction up to SDN 1. This time it was different; the throwing point was in the paddy fields because they are currently dry. They had been hiding behind residents’ houses,’ said AKP Anwari on Sunday. A stone-throwing fight became unavoidable. Although the situation heated up, the incident reportedly caused no fatalities. However, the front windscreen of a Tulungagung Police crime unit vehicle was shattered by a thrown stone. ‘We immediately pulled the riot control troops stationed in Sambitan to the crime scene to de-escalate the situation and separate the crowd,’ he explained.
