Martabe Gold Mine in North Sumatra Can Operate Again, ESDM Issues Statement
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has confirmed that PT Agincourt Resources (PTAR) can resume operational activities at the Martabe gold mine. This assurance comes after the company’s environmental permit was returned by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLH), following its previous revocation related to flooding issues in North Sumatra (Sumut). Deputy Minister of ESDM Yuliot Tanjung explained that the decision was based on KLH’s evaluation of the company’s environmental management. According to Yuliot, the evaluation results indicate that PTAR’s environmental management meets the requirements for sustainable mining practices. Consequently, the previously imposed sanctions have been lifted. “Based on the evaluation conducted by KLH on the relevant environmental management, it meets the requirements for sustainable mining management, and the imposition of sanctions has been revoked,” said Yuliot to CNBC Indonesia on Thursday (26/3/2026). With the revocation of the sanctions, the company can resume production activities in accordance with the provisions of the applicable Contract of Work (KK) until 2042. Meanwhile, regarding the Work Plan and Budget (RKAB), PTAR can continue production in line with the 2025-2027 RKAB period. Additionally, the company can simultaneously submit an RKAB for 2026. “For the relevant RKAB, production can be carried out in accordance with the 2025-2027 RKAB, and simultaneously submit the 2026 RKAB,” he stated.
