Marsinah Museum: A Symbol of Justice and the Struggle for Workers' Rights

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The state has once again recognised Marsinah as an important figure in the history of Indonesia. After being awarded the title of national hero in November 2025, President Prabowo Subianto now inaugurated the Marsinah Museum and a workers’ rest house in Nglundo Village, Sukomoro District, Nganjuk, East Java, on Saturday (16 May 2026).

“In the name of God, this morning, Saturday, 16 May 2026, I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, hereby inaugurate the Marsinah Museum and the workers’ rest house in Nganjuk Regency, East Java Province,” said Prabowo.

The signing of the commemorative plaque was witnessed by the President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and the family of the late Marsinah.

The inauguration ceremony was also attended by members of the Red and White Cabinet, trade union leaders, and local residents.

Andi Gani, who accompanied Prabowo, explained that several items belonging to the late Marsinah are on display, including a bicycle that she often used during her lifetime.

“This is her bicycle, sir, which she used to ride from her boarding house in Sidoarjo to the factory. She rode a bicycle,” said Andi Gani.

Prabowo listened attentively to Andi Gani’s explanation.

The museum also features Marsinah’s story of fighting for workers’ rights, as well as dioramas depicting her appointment as a National Hero in 2025.

According to Prabowo, the inauguration of the Marsinah Museum is a rare event and rarely seen globally.

“I think this may be a rare event; perhaps it is only now that there is a workers’ museum in the world,” he said.

The head of state stated that the Marsinah Museum was established as a symbol and milestone to commemorate the courage of someone who fought for workers’ rights.
