A married couple carried out a car theft on the Karang Tengah Toll Road in Tangerang City, targeting the wife’s former boyfriend as their victim.

The incident occurred on Monday (16 February), at the Karang Tengah Toll Exit. The perpetrators were identified as DR and AS, a married couple.

In executing their scheme, AS initially arranged to meet the victim. AS, who had previously been in a relationship with the victim, contacted him to meet at a petrol station in the Cengkareng area of West Jakarta.

From the petrol station, AS and the victim proceeded to a hotel. It was at the hotel that the victim was trapped. AS’s husband, identified by the initials DS, suddenly appeared. The couple then forced the victim out of the hotel and drove around in his car towards Puri Kembangan.

During the journey, the victim attempted to escape. However, AS wrapped a chain strap from her handbag around the victim’s neck from behind.

The victim eventually managed to flee, but the perpetrators drove off with his car.

“The victim is estimated to have suffered losses of approximately Rp 180 million,” said Ciledug Police Chief Kompol Susida Aswita, in a press conference uploaded to the Ciledug Police precinct’s account on Sunday (22 February 2026).

The victim subsequently reported the incident to the police, who immediately launched an investigation.

A joint team from the Tangerang City Metropolitan Police and the Ciledug Police Criminal Investigation Unit gathered witness statements. The following day, on 17 February at 22:00 Western Indonesian Time, police located the victim’s car parked in a resident’s yard on Jalan Parung Kored, Karang Tengah.

Suspects Apprehended

Using this lead, police moved to pursue the perpetrators. On Wednesday (18 February), both suspects were successfully arrested.

The suspects were apprehended on Jalan Parung Kored, Tangerang City. A number of items of evidence were secured.

“Both suspects along with the evidence have been secured at the Ciledug Police Station,” said Susida.

For their actions, both suspects have been charged under Article 479 paragraphs (1) and (2), sections (a) and (d), concerning theft with violence. They face a maximum sentence of 12 years’ imprisonment.
