JAKARTA – Darwin and Angel, a married couple who were assault victims in the hands of their neighbours in Kapuk, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, have rejected resolution options through restorative justice pathways.

The victims’ legal representative, Machi Achmad, confirmed that his clients have firmly closed the door on peaceful settlement with the perpetrators, identified as father and son Dodo Siagian and Nasio Siagian.

“Until now they remain reluctant. My clients have made clear they will not pursue the restorative justice route, so they have definitively closed off any peaceful resolution,” Machi stated when contacted by Kompas.com on Monday (2 March 2026).

Machi said his clients wish the legal process against both suspects to proceed through to court.

“We request that all legal proceedings continue until the perpetrators are properly and fairly convicted,” he added.

“The reason is that from the beginning my clients wanted to resolve this through the legal system, not through settlement,” he explained.

Although rejecting reconciliation, Darwin and Angel declined to pursue a counter-complaint that had been filed by the suspects.

Previously, Nasio Siagian had reported the victims for coercion with threats, which investigations ultimately found to be baseless.

Machi noted that the victims technically had legal grounds to extend the perpetrators’ imprisonment by filing a false reporting complaint.

“But my clients have chosen to be magnanimous here. We actually had the opportunity to file another report against the perpetrators based on false reporting, regarding the previous coercion complaint that turned out to lack evidence,” Machi said.

“My clients, in their good faith, have chosen not to file additional reports and are requesting that legal proceedings be expedited,” Machi concluded.

Earlier, Wisnu Wirawan, Head of Communications at West Jakarta Metro Police, revealed that both assault perpetrators in Kapuk had been designated as suspects and detained.

“Yes, so there was a status upgrade in that case yesterday. Specifically on the 19th (February), there was a case conference and designation of suspects,” Wisnu said when met by Kompas.com at West Jakarta Metro Police headquarters on Wednesday (25 February 2026).

Wisnu also noted that investigators had applied multiple charges against the father and son for the group assault they committed.
