An ambulance carrying a body was involved in a multi-vehicle collision with a truck and two minibuses on the Batang-Semarang toll road. Three people died in the incident.

The accident occurred on the Batang-Semarang toll road at KM379+900, lane A, in the Jakarta-Semarang direction, in the early hours of Wednesday (19/8) at around 00:46 WIB. One of the fatalities was the ambulance driver’s assistant, Tekat Suyanto, a resident of Ciledug District, Tangerang City.

The other two fatalities were a married couple: Mulyana (50), a resident of Jurumundi Subdistrict, Benda District, Tangerang City, and Giyati (50), from East Cengkareng Subdistrict, Cengkareng District, West Jakarta. Both died when the ambulance carrying the body of their son, Vicky Tio Prasetyo, struck a truck.

A family member of the victims, Sutomo, said the family group had intended to transport the body of the couple’s son for burial in Jepara Regency. Tragically, the parents of the deceased died in the incident.

“Our intention was to take the body of the victim’s son, Vicky Tio Prasetyo, to Jepara for burial. Tragically, Vicky’s parents died in this tragic event,” said Sutomo to detikjateng while collecting the victims’ bodies at RSI Muhammadiyah Weleri on Wednesday (19/8/2026).

Sutomo explained that Mulyana and Giyati were a married couple who were seated in the back of the ambulance, accompanying their son’s body.

“It is true that Mulyana and Giyati were a married couple. At the time, both were seated in the back, accompanying the body of their son Vicky,” he explained.

The ambulance carrying the body had departed from Cengkareng for Semarang. Upon reaching the scene, the ambulance with registration number D 1142 AFZ, driven by Suharto, a resident of Ciledug, Tangerang, lost concentration and struck the right rear side of a trailer truck with registration number BE 8501 PV, driven by Saptoto Haryanto, a resident of East Lampung.

This was followed by a chain-reaction collision in which the family’s car struck the rear of the ambulance, and another vehicle struck it as well.

“At the scene, the ambulance swerved because the driver lost concentration and then struck the right rear side of the truck’s body. A chain-reaction collision then occurred: a Toyota Avanza carrying the family escorting the body struck the rear of the ambulance and was then hit by a Toyota Innova belonging to a resident of Pekalongan,” he detailed.
