Marquee offers cuisine and appetite

Marquee Restaurant Cantonese and Continental Cuisine 32nd Floor BNI Tower Jl. Jend. Sudirman Kav.1 Jakarta Tel. 5701813 Price: High Open: 11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

JAKARTA (JP): The Marquee restaurant is a great new place for an important business lunch or romantic dinner.

The Marquee's location, opposite the Landmark building, allows easy access from any part of the central business district, especially now that the underpass at Jl. Sudirman has been completed.

The restaurant specializes in Cantonese food and has an impressive menu of over 100 selections. They range from Braised Shark's Fin Soup to Chili Chicken, all prepared by chefs from Hong Kong. One of their specialties is Drunken Prawns.

Since opening, less than a month ago, Marquee seems to have become a popular spot for business lunches. Its modern decor, continental buffet and good service lends itself well to a working lunch.

They also have plans to have barbecues on one of the patios after the official opening in September. They have the capacity to seat 150 people in the dining room and also have the banquet facilities for up to 300 guests.

The restaurant is divided into three main areas, the lounge, the patios and the dining room. Each section has its own feel, but blends in well with each other. The lounge and the dining room are light enough to carry on negotiations while the patios, one on each side, are perfect for a star lit, romantic dinner. Between the lounge and the dining room a band plays English pop favorites most nights.

The biggest drawing point is the restaurant's unique panoramic view. Located at the top of the BNI Tower, the dining room and patio have a wonderful view of all of Jakarta, giving you an entirely different perspective of the city.

The lunch time buffet features continental dishes. The actual buffet of spaghetti, steamed vegetables, potatoes and rice was not inspiring, but the huge roast of beef more than made up for it. The very generous portion of American beef was served with traditional potatoes and a light gravy. To accompany either the buffet or the roast there is a very fresh salad bar and delicious desserts, including apple pie and creamy banana pie.

The wine list is not extensive but includes some fine French wines.

The silver service trained staff are more than attentive and bring a very professional feel to the restaurant.

The view, its easy access, the fine service and the comfortable surroundings make the Marquee a great place to eat and do business.
