Marlev and Ronny cruise to All England second round

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian shuttlers breezed through the second
round of the 2001 Yonex All England Open on Wednesday.

Marlev Mainaky, seeded seventh in the men's singles grabbed
his first-round victory by defeating Swede Daniel Eriksson 15-12,
15-10.

Rony Agustinus traced Marlev's path by beating Chinese Xiao
Hui 15-9, 15-12. He will meet ninth seed Richard Vaughn of
England, who beat Shinya Ohtsuka of Japan 15-9, 15-7 at the
National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, as reported by

In mixed doubles, the Indonesian pair of Tri Kusheryanto and
his new partner Indarti Issoliana defeated Chris Davies and Robyn
Ashworth of Wales 15-2, 15-2 in a one-sided game that only lasted
17 minutes. The match was dubbed the fastest match recorded this
year.

They will then meet the winners of a clash between seeded
eighth duo Russel Hogg and Kirsteen McEwan of Scotland and
Michael Lamp and Ann-Lou Jorgensen of Denmark.

Another Indonesian duo Bambang Suprianto and Minarti Timur
defeated Jim Laugesen and Pernille Harder of Denmark 15-5, 15-6.
The unseeded Indonesian pair will then meet Chinese pair Chen
Qiqiu and Chen Lin, who are the fourth seeds in the event.

Top seeded pair Michael Sogaard and Rikke Olsen of Denmark
will challenge the Chinese pair of Wang Wei and Zhang Jiewen in
the second round. Sogaard and Olsen ousted home team Peter
Jeffrey and Suzanne Rayappan 15-6, 15-6 while Wang and Zhang beat
Kwun Yuen-yau and Wang Tong-ling of Hong Kong 15-1, 15-11.

Briton's mixed pair of Simon Archer and Gail Emms, also had an
easy 15-4, 15-3 win over Frederik Bergstrom and Jenny Karlsson of
Sweden

In the men's singles other matches, Sydney Olympic gold
medalist Ji Xinpeng of China also made his way to the second
round.

Seeded third here, Ji defeated Ruud Kuitjen of Belgium 15-8,
15-7 to meet either Indonesian-born George Rimarcdi, who is now
playing for Sweden, or Boris Kessov of Bulgaria.

Seeded eleven Anders Boesen of Denmark had to work hard before
winning a ticket to the second round. Boesen managed to beat
Chinese qualifier Hu Zhilan 15-3, 13-15, 15-4.

Two Malaysian men's singles qualifiers managed to go through
the second round after defeating their main draw opponents.

Lee Tsuen Seng defeated Andrew South of England 15-13, 15-11
while compatriot Alvin Chew outclassed Dutch Rune Massing 15-3,
