Market Volume Yet to Return, IHSG Surges 2.28%
The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) surged significantly even though transaction volume remained relatively quiet. The IHSG closed the week with a gain of 131.22 points, or 2.28%, at a level of 5,875.78 on Friday (3/6/2026). A total of 520 listed companies, representing the majority, were in the green zone. Only 159 stocks declined, while the remaining 280 were stagnant. Despite the IHSG’s strong rally, market liquidity was still considered minimal. The transaction value was only Rp10.43 trillion, with a volume of 17.02 billion shares across 1.36 million trades. Market capitalisation at the end of the week stood at Rp10,287 trillion. Citing Refinitiv, all sectors were in positive territory. Utilities led the gains, rising 3.61%, followed by basic materials at 3.39% and technology at 2.46%. Overall, the IHSG’s strengthening today was supported by the solid performance of big-cap stocks, particularly in the banking sector, along with support from conglomerate, digital infrastructure, and commodity shares. Meanwhile, pressure from declining stocks was still relatively small, unable to offset the positive push from the index’s main contributors. PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA) was the largest contributor to the IHSG’s gain, adding 28.75 index points. In second place was PT Astra International Tbk (ASII), contributing 10.20 points, followed by PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk (AMMN) with a contribution of 10.13 points. Shares of PT DCI Indonesia Tbk (DCII) also supported the IHSG’s rise with a contribution of 9.45 points, while PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk (BMRI) added 9.00 points. On the other hand, pressure on the IHSG was relatively limited. The largest drag came from PT Sinar Mas Multiartha Tbk (SMMA), which reduced the index by 2.28 points. Next, PT Barito Pacific Tbk (BRPT) trimmed 0.87 points, followed by PT Bayan Resources Tbk (BYAN) at 0.82 points and PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk (VKTR) at 0.62 points. Meanwhile, foreign investors were recorded making a net buy of Rp160.3 billion across all markets during the first session. The details included Rp1.9 trillion in foreign buy orders and Rp1.8 trillion in foreign sell orders.
