Jakarta (ANTARA) - Traditional market traders acknowledge that the digital payment system using Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) eases buying and selling transactions.

“In this era, I see progress in the times, and the QRIS payment system greatly helps our trading activities,” said biscuit trader Aimul Chairi at his stall in Pasar Palmeriam, Matraman, East Jakarta, on Wednesday.

According to him, business actors must start adapting to changes in public transaction patterns, which now tend to be non-cash.

Moreover, the trend of consumers increasingly rarely carrying cash makes digital payment systems a practical solution.

“In this era, current progress is very helpful. Because buyers on average rarely use or carry cash anymore. So they shop using QRIS, scan, yes, most of them do that,” Aimul explained.

In addition, the use of QRIS not only facilitates buyers but also provides convenience for traders in receiving payments quickly and efficiently.

Aimul himself has been using QRIS for nearly three years. Even before the digitalisation programme was more intensively promoted, he had already been using that payment method.

“Nearly three years we’ve been using it. Although lately it’s been promoted more, we’ve been using it for almost three years,” Aimul said.

To ensure transactions run securely, the QRIS payment devices used are also equipped with sound notifications as an indicator that the transaction has been successfully completed.

Nevertheless, he acknowledges that some buyers are still unfamiliar with digital technology, especially from the older age group. Those aged 50 to 60 years and above often still have difficulty using QRIS.

“There are still those who are not tech-savvy, especially those aged 50 to 60 years and above. Usually, they ask for our help,” Aimul said.

However, he ensures that cash transactions are still accommodated to serve all layers of buyers.

Aimul himself has been running a business selling biscuits, snacks, and various nibbles for 16 years at Pasar Palmeriam. In the last three years, he has felt that the use of QRIS has become more stable and widely accepted by customers.

Meanwhile, one of the buyers, Salsa (26), admitted that using QRIS makes her shopping activities more comfortable.

“Now it’s more convenient, just scan. No need to carry a lot of cash, especially if shopping in small amounts,” said Salsa.

The same sentiment was expressed by other buyers who assess that QRIS helps in managing expenses. With digital payments, transaction histories are automatically recorded, making it easier to monitor daily spending.

Perumda Pasar Jaya continues to intensify the traditional market digitalisation programme in Jakarta, targeting around 110 markets to be completed this year.

“We have already completed 60 markets for digitalisation, and we will add more, God willing, up to 50 markets this year. So around 110 will be completed this year,” said Director of Perumda Pasar Jaya Agus Himawan.

Agus stated that up to the third stage of implementation, 60 markets have successfully been digitalised out of a total of around 153 markets under the management of Perumda Pasar Jaya.

Agus mentioned that in 2026, his side targets adding around 50 more markets to enter the digitalisation programme.

This digitalisation programme is part of a major transformation driven by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to increase the competitiveness of traditional markets amid the development of the digital economy.
