Market razed by fire in Semarang

SEMARANG: Fire razed the Karangjati market in Bergas, Semarang, on Sunday night, with more than 300 traders losing their stock worth some Rp 4 billion (US$ 470,588).

Witnesses said a fire began in a kiosk belonging to a trader, Karno, and quickly spread into the other shops. An electrical fault was believed to be the cause.

Shortly after the incident, police arrested three people for looting electronic goods and gold. -- JP
