Market Capitalisation Surpasses Rp12.406 Trillion: Signal of JCI Recovery?
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Stock trading performance showed strengthening throughout the period from 4 to 8 May 2026. Although transaction activity increased significantly, the Composite Stock Price Index (JCI) remained below the psychological level of 7,000.
The Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) recorded the highest increase in the average daily transaction volume, which rose 23.57% to 45.86 billion shares compared to 37.11 billion shares in the previous week. “Stock trading data at the BEI for the period 4–8 May 2026 closed positively. The highest increase occurred in the BEI’s average daily transaction volume this week, which rose by 23.57% to 45.86 billion shares from 37.11 billion shares in the previous week,” the BEI stated in its release, quoted on Sunday (10/5/2026).
The average daily transaction value also increased by 26.14% to Rp23.06 trillion from Rp18.27 trillion in the previous week. Meanwhile, the daily transaction frequency rose 9% to 2.55 million transactions compared to 2.34 million transactions last week.
The JCI strengthened by 0.18% over the week and closed at 6,969.396 from 6,956.804 in the previous week. The BEI’s market capitalisation also increased by 0.19% to Rp12.406 trillion from Rp12.382 trillion. “The JCI experienced an increase of 0.18% over the week and closed at 6,969.396 from 6,956.804 last week. The BEI’s market capitalisation also increased by 0.19% to Rp12.406 trillion from Rp12.382 trillion in the previous week,” the BEI stated.
From the investor side, foreign players recorded net buying of Rp11.42 trillion at the end of this week. However, cumulatively throughout 2026, foreign investors still recorded net selling of Rp37.61 trillion.
Previously, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) assessed that the domestic capital market industry conditions are starting to improve after experiencing pressure from January to February 2026. OJK Chair Friderica Widyasari Dewi said market dynamics were influenced by rising global uncertainties. “The domestic capital market moved dynamically in the first quarter of this year, in line with the increase in global uncertainties,” Friderica said at the Financial System Stability Committee press conference at the BI Complex, Jakarta, on Thursday (7/5/2026).
As an evaluation of the first quarter of 2026, the JCI was recorded at 7,048.22 as of 31 March 2026, or a correction of 18.49%, but still grew positively by 8.26% annually. Entering May 2026, the JCI is again showing a strengthening trend.
“Entering May 2026, the JCI is showing a strengthening trend, closing at 7,057.11 as of 5 May 2026, so the index has appreciated by 1.44% month-to-date,” she said.
