BRIN Researcher’s Prediction: Eid al-Adha 2026 to be Celebrated Simultaneously
Eid al-Adha 2026 in Indonesia is predicted to be celebrated simultaneously on the same day. The prediction is that Eid al-Adha 2026 will fall on May 27.
Researcher at the Center for Space Research at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Thomas Djamaluddin, predicts that Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijri has the potential to fall on May 27, 2026. Thomas said that Eid al-Adha this year has a high potential to be celebrated simultaneously.
“Hopefully, Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijri will be uniform,” said Thomas to reporters, Wednesday (13/5/2026).
Thomas explained that on May 17, 2026, the position of the crescent moon at sunset will be high enough throughout Indonesia and almost the entire world. Thomas said that, based on astronomical calculations, the criteria for determining the beginning of Zulhijah, whether for Muhammadiyah, the government, or Saudi Arabia, are predicted to be the same.
“So, KHGT (Muhammadiyah) is the same as Ummul Quro (Saudi Arabia) and MABIMS (Government), the beginning of Zulhijah 1447 is the same as May 18, 2026, and Eid al-Adha is May 27, 2026,” he said.
Even so, Thomas said that the certainty of the determination of Eid al-Adha still depends on the results of the government’s isbat hearing. It is known that the isbat hearing will be held on Sunday (17/5).
“For certainty, we will wait for the government’s decision after the isbat hearing,” he said.
However, Thomas assessed that the possibility of a change in date is very small. According to his prediction, Eid al-Adha will fall on May 27, 2026.
“Most likely it will not change,” he said.
