Maritime Safety Must Be a Priority for All Stakeholders

PT Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (Persero), or BKI, held a dissemination event titled ‘Regulatory Synergy and Safety: Implementation of Bottom Damage Stability & Double Hull on National Fleet Cargo and Passenger Ships’. The event served as a strategic forum bringing together regulators, industry players, and maritime stakeholders. Its aim was to align perceptions on the implementation of ship safety regulations while promoting improved safety standards for the national fleet to ensure safe and sustainable sea transport.

BKI’s Director of Classification Business Operations, Arief Budi Permana, stressed that maritime safety must be a priority for all stakeholders. ‘Safety is not just an obligation for regulators, but a shared responsibility to protect human lives, safeguard assets, and ensure the sustainability of the national shipping industry,’ he said, according to an official statement on Thursday (18/6).

Meanwhile, Director of Shipping and Seafaring Samsuddin stated that the forum was important for aligning understanding between regulators, classification bodies, ship owners, and shipyards, particularly regarding the harmonisation of ship safety requirements. ‘I hope there will be input for improving regulations according to the needs of the community. In this way, we jointly support the improvement of ship safety and create a more competitive and sustainable shipping business climate,’ said Samsuddin.

Through this dissemination, BKI reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the alignment of understanding among stakeholders. The goal is to make the process of planning, construction, certification, and operation of ships more effective. This effort is also directed at encouraging the implementation of better safety standards on the national fleet and minimising the risk of shipping accidents.
