Marines Rewarded with Promotions After Successful Operation in Papua

The Indonesian Marine Corps has awarded honours to soldiers from the RI-Papua New Guinea (PNG) Border Security Task Force, Mobile Yonif 10 Marines, for their achievements during Operation Badai Kasuari in Papua. The awards were presented by Marine Corps Commandant Lieutenant General (Mar) Endi Supardi during a ceremony at the 1st Marine Brigade parade ground, Hartono Marine Complex, Cilandak, South Jakarta, on Friday (10/7/2026).

Head of the Marine Corps Information Service, Colonel Marinir Rana Karyana, stated that the awards were a form of appreciation for the soldiers’ success in carrying out operations while maintaining security in the border region. During their deployment in Papua, the task force conducted a series of operations against the armed group TPNPB-OPM.

“The Marine Corps successfully neutralised several TPNPB-OPM personnel and figures, encouraged a number of armed group members to return to the fold of the motherland, seized four main headquarters, destroyed 15 sector headquarters, secured 56 thousand-feet houses, and confiscated various pieces of evidence including firearms, ammunition, communication devices, TPNPB-OPM attributes, and organisational documents,” Rana said in an official statement received in Jakarta on Saturday.

In recognition of these achievements, the Commandant granted exceptional promotions, educational opportunities, and overseas assignments to the distinguished soldiers. He also presented Award Certificate Number 70/VII/2026 as official appreciation for the task force’s success in Operation Badai Kasuari. According to Rana, the awards represent institutional recognition of the dedication, discipline, and professionalism of soldiers serving in a high-risk area. Border security operations in Papua demand not only combat capability but also physical and mental readiness to face difficult geographical conditions, mountainous terrain, and logistical challenges in remote areas.
