The bridge required repairs as it serves as a critical access point used by the community for various daily activities, ranging from travelling to plantations and schools to accessing healthcare facilities.

Marine Corps troops of the Indonesian Navy stationed in the Papua border region assisted in repairing the bridge to ensure local residents can carry out their activities comfortably, on Monday (8/6).

The repair work was carried out by Marine personnel in Fuog Village, Aifat District, Maybrat Regency, Southwest Papua.

The Head of the Marine Corps Information Service, Colonel (Mar) Rana Karyana, confirmed to ANTARA in Jakarta on Tuesday that this activity demonstrates that the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) focuses not only on regional security but also frequently provides direct assistance to the community.

Rana continued, noting that personnel repaired the bridge using simple tools, including hammers, wood, and hoes.

Local residents also assisted the Marine personnel in the repair process. Within a few hours, the bridge repairs were successfully completed.

Rana expressed hope that the bridge can continue to be used to ease the community’s activities. Furthermore, he hopes the bridge serves as a symbol that strengthens the relationship between the TNI and the people of Papua.

“Through togetherness and mutual cooperation, we hope to provide benefits and strengthen the good relationship with the people of Papua,” he explained.
