Marine corps from multiple nations hone ground combat skills in Super Garuda Shield
Jakarta (ANTARA) — Marine corps personnel from multiple nations have honed their ground combat skills during the Super Garuda Shield Joint Combined Exercise (Latgabma SGS) 2026 at Brigif 4 Mar/BS in Lampung.
According to a press release from the Indonesian Military (TNI) Information Centre in Jakarta on Tuesday, the cross-national marine corps contingent comprised the Indonesian Navy’s Marine Corps, the United States Marine Corps (USMC), the Japan Ground Self Defense Force (JGSDF) and the Republic of Korea Marine Corps (ROK MC).
The release explained that the exercise aimed to enhance the soldiers’ capabilities in conducting ground patrols, attacking enemy territory and countering enemy attacks or ambushes.
The entire series of exercises was completed successfully without any incidents.
The exercise is expected to further improve the troops’ marksmanship whilst fostering harmonious relations between the marine corps of each participating nation.
The SGS 2026 event involves 4,743 personnel from 21 countries. They have come to Indonesia to test operational readiness, advance defence diplomacy and build capability in addressing various security challenges.
“Super Garuda Shield is held in Indonesia every year. Twenty-one countries are taking part this year. The total number of personnel training is 4,743 across 12 subject areas being conducted,” said Agus in Bandung, West Java, on Monday (31/8).
The 21 countries are Indonesia, the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, India, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Germany, Cambodia, Canada, South Korea, Laos, New Zealand, France, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.
Agus said the exercise is being held in Bandung, Jakarta, Lampung, the Indonesian Army’s Baturaja Combat Training Centre in South Sumatra, and Nunukan in North Kalimantan. The exercise will be closed in Jakarta on 11 September 2026.
