Marine Corps Conducts Test Firing of 122mm MLRS Vampire Rockets
The Indonesian Marine Corps conducted a test firing of 122mm calibre Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) Vampire munitions at the Marine Combat Training Centre (Puslatpurmar) 5 Baluran in Situbondo, East Java, on Wednesday.
According to a Marine Corps press release, the test was carried out to ensure the rockets recently handed over by the Ministry of Defence function properly.
"This activity was carried out to ensure the 122mm calibre munitions meet function and feasibility standards, while supporting the combat material readiness and weaponry systems of the Marine Corps in carrying out its duties," said Head of the Marine Corps Service, Colonel (Mar) Rana Karyana, when confirmed in Jakarta.
Rana stated that the munitions function test was conducted by the 2nd Marine Rocket Battalion as the firing unit using the MLRS Vampire system. Prior to firing, the munitions had undergone feasibility testing at the Indonesian Navy’s Main Weapons Laboratory (Labinsenal).
According to Rana, the test firing process proceeded smoothly and safely as all procedures complied with applicable security standards.
With this test firing, Rana confirmed that all Marine Corps primary weapon systems (alutsista) are in a state of readiness for national defence missions.
"This activity demonstrates the Marine Corps’ commitment to maintaining combat material readiness through a measured testing and evaluation process," he concluded.
