Marine Corps Commander Leads Funeral Service and Release of Soldiers Killed in Cisarua Landslide
Jakarta — The Commander of the Indonesian Navy’s Marine Corps, Lieutenant General Endi Supardi, presided over the funeral service and release of four marines of the Indonesian Navy’s Marine Corps who died in a landslide disaster in Cisarua on Saturday.
The military ceremony was conducted with solemnity at Jakarta Naval Air Base, Pondok Cabe, Pamulang, South Tangerang.
According to an official press statement received by ANTARA in Jakarta, the proceedings began with a funeral prayer attended by family members, soldiers, and officials of the Marine Corps as a final expression of prayers and respect.
“The funeral service and release ceremony was conducted in accordance with military protocol as a testament to the highest appreciation and honour for the dedication, loyalty, and selfless service of the soldiers to the nation and state,” according to the press statement.
Following the ceremony, four bodies were dispatched to Raden Inten Airport in Bandar Lampung to be handed over to families for military burial. Meanwhile, one body was sent to Bangka for burial in the deceased’s hometown.
To date, a total of 23 Marine Corps personnel have been recovered. With the recovery of all bodies, the integrated search and evacuation operation that began from the first day of the incident has been declared complete.
