Marginalization of the poor
Marginalization of the poor
From Berita Yudha
Juwono Sudarsono once said that in the context of globalizing
production and finance and investments, there is a tendency to
concentrate wealth among a small number of people. It happens
everywhere.
It is imperative that the basics of equal distribution be
thoroughly reviewed. Twenty percent of our population enjoy more
than 50 percent of Indonesia's riches, while 50 percent of our
population have less than 10 percent of the country's wealth.
If this imbalance continues, people will become cynical
regarding appeals from the authorities. The current situation is
worse with the forest fires and the resulting smog. It is the
little people who suffer most.
Then there is the depreciation of the rupiah. It is not only
big businesses that are going through difficult times, small
businesses have also been hit. Meanwhile, the price of
commodities has increased. Who suffers more?
