Chairman of the United Development Party (PPP) Muhamad Mardiono has sharply criticised statements from certain parties that he deems non-constructive and potentially capable of inciting turmoil within society.

The statements refer to views expressed by political observer Saiful Mujani and Islah Bahrawi at a Halal Bihalal forum titled ‘Before Observers Are Regulated’, held in Utan Kayu, East Jakarta, on 31 March 2026.

During the forum, a narrative emerged suggesting that the President would not complete his term until 2029.

According to the President’s Special Envoy for Food Security, such statements are not only speculative but also potentially create political instability and disrupt public trust in the legitimate government.

“As public figures, every statement should consider its broad impact on society. Narratives that tend towards delegitimising a legitimate government are highly inappropriate, especially if made without clear basis,” said Mardiono on Tuesday (7/4/2026).

Mardiono affirmed that President Prabowo is currently focused on running the government and returning sovereignty to the people as mandated by Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution.

“There is no reason not to support Father President Prabowo. He has noble aspirations to return sovereignty to the people for prosperity,” he stressed.

Furthermore, Mardiono reminded that the Indonesian nation is still in the Eid al-Fitr atmosphere, which should be interpreted as a moment to strengthen unity, enhance relations, and bring coolness to national and state life.

“In this month full of blessings, it is fitting that we present soothing narratives, not provoke the atmosphere with provocative and counterproductive statements,” he said.

Mardiono added that the government under President Prabowo’s leadership is working hard to face various challenges, from strengthening the national economy to global dynamics such as the energy crisis and geopolitical uncertainty.

“The government is striving maximally to strengthen the economic foundation, improve public welfare, and maintain national stability. Therefore, all elements of the nation should provide support, not spread unfounded speculation,” he added.

Finally, Mardiono invited all community leaders, academics, and observers to be wiser in expressing views in public spaces, prioritising ethics, responsibility, and the spirit of unity.

“Differences of opinion are normal in democracy, but they must be conveyed constructively and responsibly to maintain the integrity of the nation,” he concluded.
