Marcos Jr. pushes for reinvestigation
MANILA (AFP): The son of late Philippine strongman Ferdinand
Marcos yesterday pushed for a reopening of the investigation into
the 1983 murder of popular opposition leader Benigno Aquino,
which signaled the fall of the Marcos dictatorship.
The victim's widow, Corazon Aquino, has always held the elder
Marcos as the mastermind, but he was never charged in court. He
died in exile in Hawaii in 1989, three years after he was toppled
in a popular revolt which swept the widow Aquino to power.
"We will never put this issue to rest until we can find out
once and for all who the perpetrators are of this terrible
crime," said Ferdinand Marcos, 36, at a news conference.
The young Marcos is running for senator in the coming May
elections. Marcos maintained his family was innocent of the
crime.
