Marcos denies misuse of funds

MANILA (AFP): Former Philippine first lady Imelda Marcos
yesterday denied charges that funds allocated to her as
congresswoman for projects in her district were fanned out to her
relatives and cronies.

"In the many years (20 years) that I have been involved in
infrastructure projects ... there was no instance that my
involvement was ever questioned despite the magnitude of the
project and the funds allocated thereto," Marcos said in a
statement.

Her remarks followed a report in the Philippine Inquirer
quoting contractors in her home province of Leyte in the eastern
Philippines that Marcos' relatives and associates were awarded
infrastructure projects without public bidding.
