Marconi eyes Malaysian firm
KUALA LUMPUR (DPA): Italian telecommunications company Marconi
Mobile is eying annual contracts worth between 200 and 500
million ringgit (US$50 and $130 million) from two Malaysian
telcos, a news report said Saturday.
Marconi is now carrying out trials to enable the two locale
telcos to extend their coverage of GSM networks to rural and
semi-rurals areas, the Star daily said.
"We intend to become a serious mobile infrastructure network
supplier in Malaysia and we have the necessary experience and
expertise to do so," said visiting Marconi Mobile executive vice-
president Sergio Troili.
Troili also said that Marconi was planning to make Malaysia
the hub for its telecommunications services in the South-east
Asian region.
He declined to name the two companies involved, explaining
that they did not want to be identified yet.
