Marco Rubio reaffirms US commitment to strengthen cooperation with Italy

Rome (ANTARA) - United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has reaffirmed the US commitment to strengthening close cooperation with Italy across various shared priorities during his meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome on Friday.

According to the US Department of State, the meeting aimed to bolster the strategic partnership between the United States and Italy. Rubio emphasised the US commitment to continue working closely on shared priority issues.

The statement also mentioned that the two discussed regional security challenges, including the situations in the Middle East and Ukraine, as well as the importance of ongoing transatlantic cooperation in addressing global threats.

“A very good meeting with Italian Prime Minister Meloni in Rome to strengthen the long-term strategic partnership between the US and Italy,” Rubio wrote on the X platform.

The meeting also covered bilateral cooperation as well as global and regional security challenges.

“Secretary Rubio discussed efforts to promote freedom of navigation and maritime security in key international waterways and addressed the importance of resolving the war in Ukraine,” according to the US Department of State.
