Marciano goes one rank higher

JAKARTA (JP): Col. Marciano Norman was installed on Tuesday as
the new assistant for operational affairs of the city military
command's chief of staff, replacing Col. Tritamtomo who had been
promoted to be the West Jakarta military resort commander
(Korem).

Also installed at the same time was Lt. Col. Suharsono, the
former deputy assistant for operational affairs of the command's
chief of staff, as the assistant for operational affairs of the
garrison's chief of staff, replacing Marciano.

Marciano, the son of the former city military commander the
late Lt. Gen. (ret) Norman Sasono, was a 1978 Military Academy
graduate, while his successor, Suharsono, was a year his senior.

Tritamtomo, a 1974 Military Academy graduate was installed
last October as chief of the West Jakarta Korem, whose command
covers the North Jakarta, West Jakarta and Tangerang military
districts.

The installment ceremony was led by City Military Commander
Maj. Gen. Djadja Suparman and was attended by the command's chief
of staff Brig. Gen. A. Yahya, the garrison's chief of staff Brig.
Gen. Albert Inkiriwang and other officers.

After the installment ceremony, Djadja said that the security
officers had made efforts to maintain security in the capital
amid the escalating numbers of street crimes, rallies and student
and community brawls.

"Do you think that we have had enough sleep? We're working
hard. Some of us had to stay awake for days," he said.

The command had deployed troops to patrol around the various
crime black spots to help the city police fight the increasing
trend in street crimes. (ivy)
