Marc Klok Reveals Bulgarian Success and Insights into FIFA Series Opponents
Persib Bandung midfielder Marc Klok has received his first international call-up for the Indonesian national team under coach John Herdam.
A total of 41 players have been named in the provisional squad list for the Indonesian national team’s FIFA Series 2026, with matches scheduled for 27, 30, and 30 March. Indonesia will host Bulgaria (UEFA), Solomon Islands (OFC), and Saint Kitts and Nevis (CONCACAF).
For Marc Klok, this represents recognition of his hard work at club level. He expressed pride at receiving John Herdam’s confidence as he begins his journey with the Red-White squad.
The Indonesian national team will first face Saint Kitts and Nevis, with a second match against either Bulgaria or Solomon Islands.
Klok moved from the Dutch league to the Scottish league before achieving his first success in Bulgaria’s top division with Cherno More Varna (2014-2015). He won several honours with the club, including the Bulgarian Cup title in 2014-2015 and the Bulgarian Super Cup in 2015-2016.
The 32-year-old midfielder understands Bulgaria’s approach, which relies on physical strength and towering stature. “I played in Bulgaria for quite a long time, so I know they are strong. They have tall, powerful players, they play direct football, not too much combination play, but they are quite good,” Klok said.
However, Klok urged caution about the other opponents. “I don’t know much about Saint Kitts and Nevis. I’ve watched them but I’m not sure how good they are yet,” he acknowledged.
Despite uncertainties about specific opponents, Klok remains confident that all international teams possess individual quality. He expressed firm belief that Indonesia can win the mini tournament on home soil. “When we play in our own country, on our own ground, we must win this tournament. I’m confident,” he concluded.
