Jakarta (ANTARA) - Maranability Christian University (UK Maranatha) is developing digital-based business law through the launch of a Master of Laws programme with a concentration in Digital Business Law, marking a significant breakthrough in academic development.

“This programme is a positive response to the rapid digital transformation that is changing how society, the business world, and the government interact,” said Professor Hassanain Haykal, Head of the Master of Laws Programme, Faculty of Law and Digital Business at Maranatha Christian University, in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He expressed hope that through this programme, the understanding of business law in the digital era will become more comprehensive, simultaneously complementing knowledge of both the business and legal worlds.

He noted that developments in information technology, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, personal data protection, electronic transactions, and financial technology (fintech) have created various new legal challenges. These challenges require human resources with strong legal understanding who are also capable of keeping pace with technological dynamics.

Consequently, he added, the newly launched study programme integrates business law, modern governance, and digital transformation into a single digital-based curriculum. The programme is designed to be completed in three semesters, with a workload of 36 credit units (SKS) and a study period of one year and six months.

He explained that the curriculum is structured to produce graduates capable of providing legal solutions that are relevant, adaptive, and oriented towards the needs of digital society, while also meeting corporate requirements in the era of digitalisation.

Prof. Hassanain mentioned that the programme is open to undergraduate graduates from non-law backgrounds who wish to deepen their understanding of digital business law aspects without being subject to additional matriculation fees.

Furthermore, he stated that the programme is highly suitable for corporate advocates and business practitioners.

He outlined the vision held through this programme: to become an excellent and impactful Master of Laws programme in the development of digital business law, based on the values of integrity, care, and excellence.

To realise this vision, he stated that several missions are being undertaken, namely providing a Master of Laws education focused on digital business law so that graduates are nationally competitive; conducting research that impacts the digital business ecosystem and can sustainably answer the dynamics of digital business law; conducting community service to increase digital business law literacy for public welfare; and producing graduates imbued with the values of integrity, care, and excellence.

Furthermore, it was explained that students will be equipped with analytical, conceptual, and practical skills to understand and develop regulations that support the digital business ecosystem, while also producing policy recommendations and innovative legal solutions.

He also detailed that learning activities are directed towards studying various contemporary legal issues and mastering the application of legal principles and rules in digital business activities, including e-commerce, data protection aspects, intellectual property, cybersecurity, digital investment, and the legal aspects of digital platform-based companies.

“Lectures in this programme are conducted by combining face-to-face and online methods, providing flexibility for students who are already established in their careers or are pursuing further studies,” he said.
