JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A video has recently gone viral on social media showing returnees getting lost in rice fields and residential villages while trying to reach the Purwomartani Toll Gate by following digital mapping applications.

In response to the situation, Rachmat, the public relations officer of PT Jasamarga Jogja Solo, confirmed that several returnee vehicles had indeed strayed while heading to the Purwomartani Toll Gate. However, he declined to specify the number.

“If there are road users entering villages, there is no confirmation on the number,” Rachmat told Kompas.com on Wednesday (25/3/2026).

Based on information from Kompas.com, alternative routes to the Purwomartani Toll Gate in Kapanewon Kalasan, Sleman Regency, that pass through village roads and rice fields have been removed from Google Maps.

Returnees heading to the Purwomartani Toll Gate to access the new toll road can now follow the directional signs that have been installed.

Additional directional signs have also been added to facilitate returnees in reaching the Purwomartani Toll Gate. Furthermore, personnel are on duty to direct returnees to the toll gate.

Previously, on H+3 of Eid, traffic heading to the functional Prambanan–Purwomartani toll, especially the route exiting Yogyakarta, was observed to experience quite severe congestion.

Congestion occurred for vehicles leaving Yogyakarta as well as those entering the functional toll via the Purwomartani Toll Gate.

Based on field observations, the congestion was triggered by the high volume of vehicles heading to the Solo–Yogyakarta Main Road.

Vehicle flow came from various points, starting from the North Ring Road to main routes such as Jalan Laksda Adisucipto and Jalan Raya Janti, all converging in one corridor leading to the toll access.

Not only around the Purwomartani Toll Gate, congestion also occurred in the Maguwoharjo intersection area. Public activities crowding souvenir shops and restaurants in that area further exacerbated the traffic conditions.

This situation indicates that access to the functional Prambanan–Purwomartani toll has become a crucial point for returnees wishing to return to the Trans-Java Toll Road network.

In fact, this route is considered the most relevant access for vehicles continuing their journey out of town via toll roads, besides the arterial route via Klaten.
