KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: Many political parties have shown
no activity and their presence is a mere formality to show their
existence, a local watchdog said Friday.
Ahmadi Wardus of the Regional Independent Elections Monitoring
Committee said many party branches did not have money to fund
their activities and have too few supporters to campaign.
"The activists have adequate resources to develop their
parties let alone making any effort to win the local elections,"
he told Antara.
He said that of the 36 political parties which have
representative offices in Southeast Sulawesi, no more than eight
have shown any significant activity.
The rest did not have resources to make available banners or
to conduct indoor monolog campaigning. "It's a deplorable
situation," he said.
The most active parties are Golkar, Indonesian Democratic
Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan), Crescent Star Party (PBB),
National Awakening Party (PKB), National Mandate Party (PAN) and
Justice and Unity Party (PKP).
