Many graduates are jobless

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Some 5,700 university graduates from various fields of study are still out of a job, according to the provincial manpower office.

According to an official, the students are unable to find work because they don't have the skills sought by industry and they have no previous work experience. He added that there are vacancies for graduates who speak foreign languages and can operate computers.

The list of people registered as unemployed also includes 1,300 holders of bachelor degrees, Soewardi, head of the employment office, said. There are also 4,500 graduates of elementary schools, 26,100 junior high school graduates and 23,100 senior high school graduates on the list, he said.

He added that the total number of people seeking jobs in the province will reach 95,000 this year. (arf)
