Many Civil Servants Suffer After Retirement, Here's Why

The unresolved issue of the salary scheme for the State Civil Apparatus (ASN), including Civil Servants (PNS), is causing increasing numbers of retirees to suffer. “Currently, the basic salary is supplemented by many allowances, so when they retire, their income drops drastically. Consequently, many of our ASN are suffering more and do not want to retire; they want to move to functional positions,” said Head of the National Civil Service Agency (BKN) Zudan Arif Fakrulloh during a working meeting with Committee I of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) in Jakarta, as quoted on Wednesday (8/7/2026).
