Many Citizens Dying Young, MSIG Life Claims Reach Rp545 Billion
PT MSIG Life Insurance Indonesia Tbk (MSIG Life) recorded health and death claims totalling Rp545 billion throughout the first half of 2026. The total claims were dominated by health claims. In detail, Rp433.4 billion of claims came from the health segment and Rp111.8 billion from death claims.
Examining the claims data of individual customers, namely customers who purchase policies in their own names, it was found that 55% of death claims occurred at productive ages, namely 25 to 59 years. The age distribution shows 2% of claims occurred at ages under 25 years, 13% at ages 25 to 44 years, 42% at ages 45 to 59 years, and the remaining 43% at ages 60 years and above.
Director & Chief Operating & IT Officer of MSIG Life, Elly Susanti, explained that when a family loses its breadwinner, what they need is certainty, speed, and sufficient benefits to continue the plans they have built over many years. “We fulfil that promise through claim payments, and we maintain it for the long term through a financial foundation, reflected in MSIG Life’s Risk Based Capital ratio of 1,382%, far above the OJK minimum requirement of 120%,” Elly concluded in a written statement.
In terms of performance, based on its financial report as of June 2026, MSIG Life recorded net premium income of Rp1.78 trillion and investment income of Rp80.47 billion. Thus, its total income reached Rp2.02 trillion. As an illustration of industry performance, according to data from the Financial Services Authority (OJK), life insurance premiums grew 8.40% year-on-year, with a value of Rp94.83 trillion.
