The Traffic Police Corps (Korlantas) of the Indonesian National Police have mapped tourist routes and shopping centres as prominent accident clusters during the 2026 Eid holiday period. The Director of Law Enforcement (Dirgakkum) of Korlantas Polri, Brigadier General Faizal, revealed that according to police data, fatal accidents frequently occur during the H+1 and H+2 Eid periods when the public begins travelling to tourist destinations.

“The prominent accidents almost all occur when groups of people are heading to tourist destinations on H+1 and H+2. Because of this, the head of Korlantas has implemented a policy to establish special checkpoints on tourist routes,” Faizal stated during the Denpasar Discussion Forum 12 on Wednesday (11 March).

Faizal indicated that one location for a joint checkpoint will be at Cipali Toll Road KM 81. At this location, officers will conduct comprehensive inspections, ranging from vehicle technical readiness to driver health. This measure is being taken to ensure that no drivers are forcing themselves to drive whilst fatigued or operating unroadworthy vehicles.

“We will inspect vehicle readiness, driver health, and of course provide them the opportunity to rest,” he explained.

Beyond monitoring by officers, Faizal urged bus and travel passengers not to hesitate in reminding drivers who have exceeded safe driving time limits. He emphasised that passenger safety is heavily dependent on driver concentration.

“We are conveying that passengers, whether on buses or travels, should not hesitate to remind drivers if they have been driving for more than one and a half hours, as they are obligated to rest,” he stressed.
