Manulife Officially Acquires Schroders Indonesia, Strengthening Dominance in the Investment Manager Industry
Manulife Wealth & Asset Management has officially completed the acquisition of PT Schroder Investment Management Indonesia (Schroders Indonesia) through PT Manulife Aset Manajemen Indonesia (MAMI). This was carried out after obtaining approval from the Financial Services Authority (OJK).
This step is believed to be one of the largest corporate actions in the national asset management industry, amid the increasing need for safe and diversified investment instruments among the public.
With the completion of the transaction, the integration process between MAMI and Schroders Indonesia is being implemented gradually. During the transition period, both entities will continue to operate in parallel while merging systems, products, and operations.
Chief Executive Officer of Wealth and Asset Management Asia at Manulife, Fabio Fontainha, stated that this acquisition reinforces the company’s long-term commitment in Indonesia and strengthens MAMI’s position as the largest investment manager in the country.
“This merger brings greater scale, higher innovation capacity, and global insights to expand investment solutions for clients,” said Fabio Fontainha in his statement.
This acquisition is also considered strategic amid the trend of continuous growth in Indonesian retail investors in recent years, along with improving financial literacy and the digitalisation of investment services.
CEO & President Director of MAMI, Afifa, described this step not merely as business expansion, but as part of efforts to broaden the impact of investment services.
“This opens a new chapter for us to deliver higher-quality investment solutions and strengthen leadership in the growing industry,” said Afifa.
Meanwhile, CEO of Schroders Indonesia, Michael T. Tjoajadi, assessed that joining MAMI will expand access to global resources and new growth opportunities, without abandoning the core strengths built over decades.
