Man's Road Rage Causes Car Damage on JORR Toll Road
JAKARTA — A man who damaged a car belonging to Peter, 39, on the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) toll road has been arrested by police. The incident is suspected to have stemmed from an overtaking dispute. ‘For the cause is still under investigation. What is certain is that the perpetrator felt he was not given way when attempting to overtake on the left,’ said AKBP Pendi Wibisono of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s Criminal Investigation Directorate in a video statement to reporters on Sunday (31 May 2026). Pendi explained the sequence of events that occurred on Tuesday (26 May 2026). At the time, the victim was driving a Suzuki Ertiga home. Suddenly, a ride-hailing driver in a Toyota Sigra overtook from the right and pulled in front of the Suzuki Ertiga. The perpetrator then stopped the victim’s vehicle and approached him with a wheel nut key, striking the right-side mirror and causing it to fall off. The victim’s car sustained scratches and damage to the right mirror. The perpetrator faces charges under Article 521 of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of two years and six months in prison. Peter said he had not noticed the vehicle behind him until it suddenly forced itself alongside from the right.
