Manpower Ministry to Summon Tokopedia Management Over Layoff Rumours

The Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) has confirmed it will immediately summon the management of Tokopedia following the emergence of layoff rumours that have become a widespread topic of public discussion. The step is being taken to request a direct explanation from the company while ensuring workers’ rights are protected in accordance with applicable regulations. Despite the issue attracting public attention, the ministry revealed that it has not yet received any official report from either the company or worker representatives regarding any organisational downsizing or termination of employment. Deputy Minister of Manpower Afriansyah Noor stated that administratively, no notification has been received by Kemnaker concerning the issue. Nonetheless, he stressed that the government will not wait any longer and will take immediate mitigation steps by summoning Tokopedia’s management. Afriansyah said the summons aims to obtain a clear picture of the actual situation within Tokopedia. He added that direct clarification is necessary so the government can ensure all employment processes comply with regulations and that workers’ rights remain the primary concern. The Deputy Minister also reiterated the government’s stance that layoffs must be a last resort, only permissible after the company and workers have exhausted all possible alternatives to preserve employment.
