From: Antara NewsJakarta (ANTARA News) - Manpower and Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Iskandar said his office, in coordination with various other parties, including trade unions, would improve the country`s manpower regulations, especially on outsourcing.
"Indeed the present regulations are already outdated and therefore a new regulation which is more complete is needed particularly for better placement of manpower," the minister said after a coordination meeting on acceleration of development in remote regions here on Monday.
He said various parties within worker unions considered Ministerial Decrees Number 100/2004, Number 101/2004 and Number 220/2004 that regulate outsourcing and outsourcing companies not providing enough protection for workers.
He referred among other things to provisions on wages and work contracts. Based on them he said "the workers` position is very vulnerable so that lay-offs can happen any time."
The minister said "we need to improve the regulation so that workers will not be easily laid-off. Workers must be protected."
To follow up studies on outsourcing the minister said his office would immediately make efforts to improve the regulation on outsourcing involving workers` representatives, worker unions and employers.(*)
