Manpower Ministry strengthens training to reduce worker-industry mismatch
The Manpower Ministry (Kemnaker) is strengthening training programmes so that the mismatch, or competency gap between the workforce and the needs of the business and industrial world, can be resolved, as this is an obstacle in reducing unemployment in Indonesia.
“We still have obstacles besides unemployment, and the mismatch is still high at around 30 percent,” said Sugeng Heri Suseno, Director General of Manpower Placement Development and Employment Opportunity Expansion at the Manpower Ministry, in Jakarta on Wednesday.
According to him, with the fairly high mismatch between workers and the business and industrial world, breakthroughs are needed so that what industry requires can be fulfilled, one of which is through job training.
He explained that what PLAN Indonesia is doing together with other private parties in providing competencies and training to young people or the workforce deserves appreciation.
Sugeng said that unemployment in Indonesia is currently recorded at 7.24 million and this figure must be gradually reduced, one way being through holding job fairs.
“Today it is important to hold a job fair, namely bringing together job seekers and companies. So it is not just about meeting, but hopefully they will also be placed,” he said.
In addition to providing training, Sugeng said that information related to jobs must also be intensified, so that there is no imbalance between young people or the workforce in Jakarta and its surroundings and those in Papua, East Nusa Tenggara, and other regions.
“Market information needs to be strengthened. So information is not only received by residents in Jakarta but throughout Indonesia, from Sabang to Merauke, everyone knows,” he said when opening the Career Day event attended by 200 young people at the Manpower Ministry.
Sugeng added that at this job fair or Career Day, there are 25 companies that will accommodate as many as 850 people, and it is hoped that all job seekers can be accepted.
“Hopefully the 200 people being interviewed today will all be accepted,” he added.
