PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk is supporting the success of the Ministry of Manpower’s National Internship Programme, which gives university graduates and other recent graduates the opportunity to gain direct experience in industry.

Manpower Minister Yassierli visited the programme at BRI, speaking with participants and mentors and meeting several alumni who have since joined the bank. He praised BRI’s implementation, particularly its mentoring and the structured six-month learning programme.

He said BRI mentors play an active role in carefully designing participants’ learning, from the skills they need to acquire and the practical work they undertake to the projects they manage during their internships. The process is intended to prepare participants to take professional certification examinations at the end of the programme.

“I commend BRI because the programme has been very well designed. Mentors help plan in detail what participants will learn, practise and manage as projects over the six months. The hope is that by the end of the sixth month, they will have enough experience and skills to enter the workforce,” Yassierli said, as quoted on Friday (23 October 2026).

Separately, BRI President Director Hery Gunardi said interns are given the opportunity to take part in real work, learn alongside mentors and understand how knowledge gained during their studies is applied in the workplace.

“We hope this experience will help them build their careers, whether at BRI or in other companies and industries,” he said.

This is the second year that BRI has taken part in the National Internship Programme. Since first joining in 2025, the bank has provided a learning environment for 1,354 participants. A total of 571 took part in three cohorts in 2025, while 783 are currently participating at BRI this year.

Of the 783 participants, 436 have been placed in 65 groups at BRI’s head office, including in information technology, risk management, wealth management and ultramicro business. The other 347 are spread across 17 BRI regional offices, from Medan to Jayapura.

Hery said placing participants across different regions is part of BRI’s effort to widen young people’s access to work experience, so that internship opportunities are not concentrated only in Jakarta and other major cities.

To ensure that learning is properly structured, BRI has prepared the BRILiaN Internship Assistant Program curriculum. It equips participants with a range of skills, including data processing and analysis, operational administration, effective communication, banking knowledge, report writing and applying their respective fields of study in their work units.

The programme’s outcomes are also beginning to emerge in the careers of its first-year participants. Of the 571 alumni from 2025, 133 have now been recruited to work at BRI.

Hery stressed that the programme’s success is not measured solely by how many participants are subsequently hired by BRI. The broader aim, he said, is to ensure participants have stronger skills, experience, work ethic and confidence when they enter the professional world.

“For us, what matters most is that after completing the programme they are better equipped to face the world of work. Whatever career path they choose, we want their experience at BRI to add value to their professional journey,” Hery added.

The National Internship Programme is part of the government’s efforts to expand young people’s access to work experience, improve their skills and give them a direct understanding of industry needs. In 2026, the programme aims to provide 150,000 participants with six-month internships and work experience.

Through this process, participants are expected to be better prepared to enter industry after completing the programme.

“For BRI, taking part in the National Internship Programme reflects the company’s commitment to developing Indonesia’s young talent. As a company with a broad network across the country that serves millions of MSME operators, BRI regards human capital development as an important part of supporting sustainable economic growth,” Hery concluded.
