Manpower Minister Pledges to Maximise Domestic Job Creation Through National Priority Programmes
Minister of Manpower Yassierli has stated that his ministry continues to strive to maximise domestic job creation opportunities. He made the remarks after attending a working meeting with Commission IX of the House of Representatives in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (2/7).
"We must utilise and optimise every opportunity," the Minister said.
He noted that domestic job creation opportunities could be derived from President Prabowo Subianto's national priority programmes. "Starting from the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme, the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG), 80,000 Merah Putih Village Cooperatives, then there is downstream processing, food security, and energy security. These are job opportunities right before our eyes," he said.
However, to realise these opportunities, Yassierli said strategic cooperation among stakeholders and across ministries would be required. He cited the example of the Ministry of Manpower having signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Cooperatives for human resource training in preparation for the Merah Putih Village Cooperatives.
Additionally, the Minister said new employment could also emerge from fresh investment across several industrial sectors in Indonesia. He highlighted the important roles of Danantara and the Ministry of Investment/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM).
"We already have an MoU with the Ministry of Investment/BKPM stipulating that going forward, every new investment will also include considerations related to manpower," the Minister affirmed.
"And lastly, we will then discuss opportunities for internships or overseas employment. So we are optimising all of these avenues," he added.
