Manpower Minister (Menaker) Yassierli has stressed that the government is continuously monitoring the development of mass layoffs (PHK) affecting several companies, particularly in the Jakarta, West Java, and East Java regions. Mitigation measures are being carried out by strengthening the bipartite process and deploying mediators to the field.

“We continue to monitor. Every time there is a PHK report, the process starts from within the company until it reaches us. There are cases we push for bipartite resolution, and there are also mediators who go directly to the location,” said Yassierli when met at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in Jakarta on Monday (22/6).

Yassierli added that a number of mediators from the Ministry of Manpower have been deployed to handle several cases, while others are still awaiting the results of internal agreements between companies and workers.

The current employment situation is facing serious challenges. Special Adviser to the President on Manpower and Labour Welfare, Said Iqbal, revealed that global economic uncertainty due to geopolitical conflicts is directly impacting domestic industries.

According to Said, export-oriented companies that depend on imported raw materials are experiencing a decline in production due to weakening foreign demand. Based on field visits, potential for large-scale layoffs has been identified in several regions.

Despite the worrying conditions, Said Iqbal noted that rapid coordination between the government and labour unions is beginning to yield results. One example is the handling of the case at PT Amos, which has started to see progress regarding clarity on worker status and the payment of delayed salaries.

“The PT Amos case is an example that mitigation can be carried out quickly if the government, labour unions, and companies sit together to find the best solution,” Said concluded.
