Manpower Minister Appreciates DPR Leadership's Move to Clarify Tokopedia Layoff Issue
Manpower Minister Yassierli has expressed appreciation for the steps taken by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, who facilitated a meeting with TikTok representatives following the issue of layoffs at Tokopedia. He stated that this issue needed to be clarified immediately. “First of all, I certainly appreciate the DPR leadership for quickly responding to what the public has been questioning, and earlier it was clarified by the president director of TikTok Indonesia,” Yassierli said after the meeting at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (6/7/2026).
Yassierli also commended the internal restructuring of the TikTok-Tokopedia Group, which he said continues to provide employment opportunities for its staff. Employees of the business group are also given the option to work in other business lines despite the internal reorganisation. “We also appreciate how the restructuring, often referred to as internal mobility within the TikTok Group, provides them with the opportunity to continue working in other companies or business lines of the TikTok Group,” he said.
Furthermore, he noted that TikTok-Tokopedia is currently opening job recruitment. Yassierli said this recruitment drive opens opportunities for the public to gain employment. “This shows that the business currently being undertaken is continuing to grow, and we believe this also presents an opportunity for the nation’s children to secure jobs in the positions offered,” he stated.
Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, brought together TikTok representatives and Manpower Minister Yassierli on Monday. The meeting was held to discuss the issue of dismissals occurring within the TikTok-Tokopedia business group. “Today I facilitated a meeting; we invited representatives from TikTok in China and TikTok in Indonesia, which acquired Tokopedia,” Dasco said during a press conference after the meeting on Monday (6/7). “We, the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, received input and matters that went viral on social media, especially concerning the issue of layoffs of TikTok employees,” he said.
On the same occasion, Executive Director of Tokopedia and TikTok E-Commerce Indonesia, Stephanie Susilo, stressed that there were no layoffs at TikTok or the Tokopedia Group. She said what was happening was a workforce restructuring. “There are no layoffs at TikTok or the Tokopedia Group. What is happening is a workforce restructuring that we are carrying out and internal mobility within the TikTok or Tokopedia Group,” she said.
Stephanie explained that within this restructuring programme, some employees have chosen to take a compensation package and work elsewhere. The TikTok and Tokopedia business group itself is currently opening recruitment. “In this restructuring programme, there are indeed those who have chosen to take a compensation package and work elsewhere, or be channelled within the TikTok-Tokopedia business group environment. We are currently also recruiting for more than 100 positions in Indonesia,” she revealed.
