MANADO, North Sulawesi: Minister of Home Affairs Moch. Yogie S.M. is scheduled to install Maj. Gen. Evert Erenst Mangindaan as the new governor of the North Sulawesi province on March 1.
Yogie will swear in Mangindaan on behalf of President Soeharto, a spokesman for the North Sulawesi administration, Nico Pesik, told Antara over the weekend.
Mangindaan was elected governor for the 1995-2000 period in January, with the support of 33 of the 43 eligible voters in the provincial legislative council.
Contender Abdullah Mokoginta won six votes, while R.S. Tangkudung won four votes.
Mangindaan will replace Maj. Gen. (ret.) C.J. Rantung, who is serving his second term, having been elected for the first time in 1985. (imn)
