Manggarai-Velodrome LRT Begins Trial Runs Today

The Jakarta Phase 1B Light Rail Transit (LRT) (Manggarai-Velodrome) has begun limited operations today as part of a trial period lasting until 16 September 2026. This initial phase is reserved for invitees, community representatives, institutions, key opinion leaders (KOLs), and journalists.

Following this, the LRT will operate from 17 September to 2 October for seven hours daily, between 09:00 and 16:00 WIB, for the general public and communities who have pre-registered.

Paulus Budi Kartiko, Director of Operations II at Waskita Karya, stated in an official briefing in Jakarta on Thursday that a general trial period will be implemented from 12 October to 30 November 2026. During this period, the service will operate for 17 hours, from 05:30 to 00:20 WIB.

“During this period, all stations will be active, passenger numbers will not be limited, and no registration will be required. We are grateful that the public will soon be able to experience the Jakarta Phase 1B LRT facilities firsthand,” he said.

Paulus noted that all construction stages of the Rp4.1 trillion project have been completed. For this project, owned by PT Jakarta Propertindo (Perseroda), the company has constructed a 6.4-kilometre track equipped with five stations, covering Rawamangun, Pramuka, Matraman, Proklamasi, and Manggarai.

All Jakarta LRT stations are designed to be integrated with other forms of public transport. Notably, Manggarai Station will be directly integrated with the KRL Commuter Line, Transjakarta bus services, and the airport train service to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

He expressed hope that this step would enhance the modernisation of the transportation system in Indonesia, particularly in Jakarta as a centre for economic activity, government, and cultural exchange.

“We believe that the presence of the LRT will not only support urban connectivity but also have a positive impact on the environment by reducing carbon emissions, thereby supporting the government’s Net Zero Emission (NZE) targets,” added Paulus.
