Manggarai terminal project

JAKARTA (JP): President director of PT Pembangunan Jaya, Hanafi Lauw, said the timing of the construction of the Manggarai integrated terminal project depended on a revision of the design.

He said Monday revision was needed to cut construction costs, initially estimated at US$285 million.

Last year, Ciputra, the firm's ex-director, said the 124- hectare project could begin this year and that 54 hectares of the required plot were still privately owned. But the city has not received details of the project yet.

Hanafi said the project would minimize land appropriation.

The plan was first presented to President Soeharto by the chairwoman of the project's consortium, Siti Hardiyanti Rukmana, in 1994.

In the plan, the small bus terminal would be turned into a four-story station with 22 tracks, four underground express trains, inter-city buses, minibuses and taxis. (ste)
