Manggarai Station Packed Before Iftar on First Day of Ramadan, Two Platforms Most Crowded
Heavy passenger congestion occurred at Manggarai Station in South Jakarta on the first day of Ramadan fasting. The majority of passengers, predominantly office workers, packed the station area in a bid to reach home before the time for breaking fast.
Based on observations at the location on Monday afternoon (19/2/2026), crowding became visible from 5:00 PM WIB. Commuter line (KRL) passengers hurried between platforms via staircases and escalators, both of which appeared packed.
Platforms 10 and 11 serving the Bogor direction, along with platforms 3 and 4 for the Bekasi/Cikarang direction, were the most congested points. Passengers filled the waiting areas, whilst security officers stood guard to ensure orderly conduct.
One passenger, Syamsul (58), said he was heading home to Cikarang from his office in South Jakarta. He noted that his workplace had brought forward closing hours during Ramadan.
“Normally I leave at 5, but during the fasting month it’s 4,” Syamsul said at the station.
However, he suggested there was no significant difference in station crowding compared with normal days. “It’s about the same, I don’t think there’s much difference,” he said.
Meanwhile, another passenger, Maulita (18), felt conditions at the station were slightly more crowded than usual. She attributed this to many passengers being on leave and planning to break fast together with friends and family.
“Actually, the KRL is always busy on normal days too. And with it being the first day of fasting, perhaps many people are still on holiday, and many are looking for different food destinations, so it seems even busier,” she added.
“They’re probably also in a rush, whether to have iftar with friends or with family, so the trains are even more crowded,” she said.
