JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The escalator at Manggarai Station was out of service on the third day of Eid, Monday (23/3/2026). The incident was recorded and uploaded by the Instagram account @jalur5. In the video, passengers were seen having to climb the escalator manually to platforms 11 and 12 bound for Depok and Bogor, leading to a build-up in that area. Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter Indonesia (KCI), Karina Amanda, confirmed the disruption. She explained that the escalator was temporarily non-functional due to a technical fault. “That’s correct, but our technicians, who are on standby at Manggarai Station, immediately carried out repairs and the escalator is now back in operation,” Karina said when contacted by Kompas.com on Monday. Karina assured that the repairs were done quickly, allowing the escalator to resume normal operations in a short time. A total of 231,088 passengers entered, exited, and transited through the station, broken down into 14,824 entering, 14,647 exiting, and 201,617 transiting. According to her, the number of entering and exiting passengers was still below the average for a normal day. “The increase was actually in the transit volume at Manggarai Station yesterday, Sunday, reaching more than 201,000 passengers,” Karina said. She added that the transit passenger figure represented an increase of about 11 percent compared to the daily average of 180,000 passengers.
